Public exhibition for Hillhead of Auquhirie Wind Farm

The Auquhirie Land Company will be holding a public exhibition in Kinneff Hall to allow everyone to find out more about their plans for 3 wind turbine at Hillhead of Auquhirie.

The exhibition will be help from 4pm to 8pm on Wednesday 7^th May.

The community council welcomed a new member at the AGM held after the normal monthly meeting. Eric Wyness will be representing Kinneff, taking over the seat left vacant by Peter Hales's resignation last year.

The existing office bearers were re-elected nem. con.

The 2008 Project grants were awarded, with grants going to Catterline Mother and Toddler Group, Catkins Rising 5's, ‘Catkins’ After School Club, Dunnottar Bodgers Group, Catterline Harbour Trust and Kinneff Hall.

The meeting also heard a presentation from Neil Lindsay of Macaulay Enterprises about the proposed wind turbine cluster at Hillhead of Auquhirie, focussing on the work done so far in preparing the Environmental Impact Assessment and the work yet to do.

Neil Lindsay of Macaulay Enterprises Ltd will be attending the next public meeting of the community council (26th Feb - 19:30 in Catterline School) to begin the process of engagement and consultation with CKDCC and the local community as they prepare the Environmental Impact Assessment for the proposed wind farm at Hillhead of Auquhirie (APP/2006/1777). He will be giving a short presentation to outline the project and is keen to discuss what approach they should take to local dialog and any specific concerns that can be addressed.

If you have any concerns that you'd like to raise, please either come along to the meeting, write or email us or speak to one of your community councillors.

CKDCC Community Grants

The Community Council has a small amount of money available to local community groups to help fund projects. To apply for funding, please either contact one of your community councillors or apply by email or in writing to the secretary;

The grants will be allocated at the meeting on 26th February, so applications will need to have been received before then.

The newly formed Catkins After School Club met with the community council to outline their plans for setting up an After School Club for Catterline and Kinneff. The lack of a good venue for the club was highlighted and, while Kinneff Hall will be used initially, it is hoped that in the long term more suitable place can be found or perhaps even built.

Arguments both in favour and against the proposed extension to the Cloak Caravan Park. Concerns about the increase in traffic and the provision of adequate screening were noted, as were the potential benefits to the local economy of an increase in tourism. The community council is keen that any potential traffic and screening issues should be effectively addressed.

Road safety was in the spotlight this month as we considered the refusal by Aberdeenshire Council to install a barrier on the A92 at Denhead of Catterline, a decision which was met with some disappointment by the Community Council. A detailed report listed the lack of reported accidents, the failure to meet any of the criteria for installing barriers and the significant cost of dealing with installed BT services as factors involved in reaching the conclusion. However, the report seemed to focus on the bridge at Mill of Uras and the section of road running to the corner at Denhead and failed to mention the gorge and plunge pool of the waterfalls at Denhead of Catterline, the top of which is some 5 or 6 metres from the road.

CKDCC discussed, amongst other things, the future of the Todhead Lighthouse and the speed of traffic passing through Roadside of Kinneff, and heard about the public inquiries into the St John's Hill Wind Farm held at the start of October and the Clochnahill Wind Farm, which is scheduled to start at 10am on Wednesday 12th Dec in Kinneff Hall.

Meanwhile, the hunt continues for new members for the community council to fill the vacant seats in Dunnottar and Kinneff. If you are interested in joining the community council, please contact the secretary.

Community Council Vacancies

With the resignation at the last meeting of two long standing Community Councillors - Nick Margiotta and Peter Hales - there are now two seats to be filled.

The Community Council meets 9 times a year, on the last Tuesday of every month excepting the months of July, August and December.

The Community Council tries to represent the views of the community to Aberdeenshire Council on a wide range of issues including planning, transport infrastructure, recycling and waste management and schools and education. Council pays tribute to George Swapp

CKDCC payed tribute to Councillor George Swapp on the occasion of his final meeting as Aberdeenshire Councillor for North Mearns. CKDCC Chairman Ian Duncan said "Georgeâ€™s conscientious attitude towards the community has earned him a great deal of respect and gratitude and he will leave a great void, difficult to fill and a challenge to the newcomers."

As a token of council's gratitude and in recognition of his 21 years of diligent service, Anne Masson presented George with an oil painting of Catterline on behalf of the community council.

George Carr was also presented with a pen in recognition of his enthusiatic and conscientious service as CKDCC secretary.
